logic behind that is that immigration officer ultimately has the right to let you enter. More of a US requirement than Nepali side I think. With B2 Visa, there may be questions about affordability, its a blanket requirement, burden is on the person visiting. Imagine a tourist visiting here for two weeks without cash or sponsorship, how would they afford meals, hotels etc. during layover issues and here in the US?

Oh, Didn't know about this and not sure about this requirement. While my parents are here...they may be only have $200-300. I have seen in others case too, they rarely bring $1000. No need for hotel reservation if the purpose of visit is to be with son!!
