you are not allowed to work outside school (you can, but illegally and the result: unsatisfactory output). to work inside school, you don't need permit.

next, if earning money is your motive, then working outside is OK. but if your interest is to get education, it's not a place doing both simultaneously.

to your question, yes you can work in canada on cash. Find some dhoti's restaurant or pan pasal and you can work on cash. Legally I don't think you get work permit till you graduate But if you are married and you on student visa your wife will get a work permit right away.This is the good thing about canada.
