My VISA expires this coming December and I am in a dilemma - whether I should renew my visa or I should keep studying maintaining my student status.
I am sure there are a lot of brothers and sisters who have faced similar situation as I am facing currently. I would really appreciate if you could share your experience with me and help me out.
Also, how many days or months ahead can I begin processing my visa renewal if I choose to do so?

There is no term like Visa renewal.Your legal status is maintained by your I-20 not by your visa. If you have valid I-20, u don't need visa to stay over here. Only when u need to go out of US and come back then u need to apply for visa if your visa has expired by that time.
